“We believe this Summit will help our students overcome the challenges in advancing their health careers.”

Sponsored by the Office of Educational Outreach and Health Careers at MSM, this summit will bring together invited faculty and pre-medical advisors from more than 50 schools throughout the Southeastern United States. Faculty and staff from MSM, along with representatives from the Association of American Medical Colleges AAMC), National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP), and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators, will provide resource information and interactive learning sessions around pre-medical advisement, MCAT preparation strategies, medical school admissions requirements and examining how assessment drives learning within your curriculum.

Registration for the Summit is free. Local discounted lodging is available. Please contact Mrs. Jasmine Mattison at 404.752.1590 or for more information.

XULA 2019 Conference

This year's conference will examine the upstream determinants of public health that are largely outside the control of the individual as compared to the downstream determinants of public health that are viewed as being more easily mitigated or prevented by the individuals. Whereas Downstream approach refers to interventions addressing the problems after they are already there and trying to mitigate them without looking so much at what is causing them; the Upstream refers to addressing the social, economic, political, environmental factors that cause the problems, and intervening proactively.

Join us for these interdisciplinary strategy sessions and make recommendations to:

  • Provide models of best practice;
  • Identify social, economic, political and environmental issues included in the downstream approach to social determinants;
  • Document societal, policy, and systems structure of upstream influence of social determinants of health; and
  • Advance the upstream and downstream involvement of systems and individuals to improve health outcomes.
